The TGIM Weekly Challenge: Thank God for Home-Pressed Coffee!

It’s no secret that I loooove freshly-brewed/pressed coffee. One of my little joys is having a pre-breakfast date with my French press, followed by a few quiet minutes with a hot  mug of fresh, strong coffee wrapped around  my hands while I sip, one precious little gulp at a time.

I enjoyed this very thing before the sun came out this morning. Alongside it I enjoyed soaking  in God’s Word, which was even more valuable.

I’m so thankful that I was able to start this Monday right. I’m also glad that the weekend that passed allowed me to be replenished through time spent with the hubby, and time for corporate worship and listening to the Word. The subject discussed was finding our identity in Christ, which I know is a foundational requisite to enjoying the abundant life that Jesus promises us.  The key verse was Galatians 2:20, which says,

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

I will deal with this topic more in a future post 🙂

Today, I am thankful for the following:

1.   Yesterday’s message in church about perseverance. I’m carrying it with me with much inspiration — Hebrews 10:32-39, which says:

Recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.”

But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls.

2.   Last week in the midst of apparent challenges such as illness (especially of the hubby and of one of our closest friends) and financial and employment uncertainties, among others, I received grace upon grace from the Lord: more time for prayer, sharing of God’s word and hearing of testimonies; words of encouragement at work; opportunities to meet and interact with inspiring people; a wonderful, God-honoring celebration of the life of a dear mentor; witnessing answered prayers…and a lot more!

3.   There is much work to be done again this week! That is always reason to rejoice and be thankful 🙂

I leave you with this passage that I found framed at church:

I’m still praying for this campaign to take off; I know it’s quite a challenge to lift people’s spirits up on Monday, but I also know that sowing seeds of thankfulness and positivity is worth the time and the effort.

So what have I to savor this Monday for? Let’s see:

First, this week I’m taking a few days to set aside extra time to focus on God. This means getting off a number of things that distract me — including (of course) Facebook, and even blogging! I’m looking forward to how He will speak to me during this period.

Second, my busy season at work officially starts this week! And work = productivity + opportunity to labor excellently for the Lord + provision + opportunity to depend on the Lord for strength and wisdom, so yay!

Third, this week, I’m also setting aside extra time to pray for others. This, admittedly, is one area of weakness in my spiritual life, and so I thank God for His reminder that “prayer is the greater work” (Oswald Chambers).
