Last week I was unable to publish a TGIM post for two reasons: (1) I was much occupied with my niece whom I was visiting in the US, and (2) By the time I had minutes to spare for my blog, news of more incomprehensible deaths and other developments in my country, on top of which was the Supreme Court decision on the burial of Ferdinand Marcos, reached me, and I just felt too heartbroken to write. (For my non-Filipino readers, Marcos was the dictator who ruled the Philippines for over twenty years, half of the time by Martial Law, until he was ousted through the peaceful People Power Revolution in 1986. He plundered the nation and was responsible for thousands of torture cases, deaths and disappearances during his regime.)
But I praise God for His sobering Spirit, which caused me to post on Facebook, after processing all the news:
AND… today, it’s another Monday. And God has shown so much of His grace that I can only praise Him.
The last few days have been spent recovering from my trip and catching up on missed time with the hubby (who had no less than my parents to take care of him while I was away; what a blessing!). I’ve been fighting off illness for weeks, and in spite of constantly feeling on the brink of succumbing, I’m still here, up and about. The worst I got was yesterday’s blinding headache but paracetamol and lots of sleeping in seemed to do the trick, and I was pretty okay by afternoon. So now I’m all set for the week!
I’m also still enjoying the hangover from the weekend I spent with my sister and her family. It was so precious to have had an opportunity to bond with my sassy and super-funny 4-year old niece! I can only pray to be able to see them again soon.
There are several things that I’m excited about this week:
First, I have much work to do (and that is always something to be thankful for).
Second, our adoption requirements are nearly complete (yay, finally!).
Third, I signed up for a volunteer activity that I’m praying I can stick to, for once.
Fourth, I’m anticipating the result of my school application — I will be a student again, God willing.
I also have several things beyond my control that I am lifting up to God this week, including the health of my loved ones and of my friends’ loved ones. I am entrusting all in Him who is Jehovah Rapha — the Lord, our Healer.
And how’s your Monday? What have you to be thankful for today?
